The production of steel plants is a highly systematic process

1. Design Planning and Review

Define the use of the steel plants  (e.g. storage, production plant), span requirements, load parameters (static load, dynamic load, wind load, etc.)


2. Construction drawing deepening of steel plants 

refinement of component dimensions, node connection methods (e.g. bolted or welded), prejudgement of machining allowances and welding shrinkage


3.Raw material procuremen

t and pre-processing

Selection and Inspection 

The main material is selected from carbon steel or low alloy steel such as Q235B, Q345B, etc. Verify the quality certification documents, and double-check the mechanical properties and chemical composition.

High-strength bolts need to be rust-proof, and welding materials (such as J507 welding rod) need to be moisture-proof management.


Surface treatment of steel plants 

Steel is sandblasted to remove rust to Sa2.5 cleanliness, sprayed with temporary anti-rust paint (shop primer)

4.Component Machining and Forming of steel plants 

Cutting and Uncutting

CNC technology: laser/plasma cutting accuracy up to ±1mm for key parts such as main beams and columns; manual cutting only for non-standard parts

Burrs need to be polished after cutting, bevelling with edge milling machine.


4.Assembly and Welding 

Positioning

Methods: submerged arc welding (high efficiency, used for long straight welds), CO₂ gas shielded welding (small deformation, used for complex nodes).

Quality control: 100% ultrasonic flaw detection for primary welds, 20% sampling inspection for secondary welds.

6. Surface corrosion protection and coating of the steel plants 

Coating process

primer (e.g. epoxy zinc-rich paint) + topcoat (polyurethane) sprayed in layers, coating thickness ≥ 100μm, adhesion scratch method test


7.Quality inspection and pre-assembly of steel plants 

Whole process inspection

Raw material re-inspection → weld flaw detection (UT/RT) → dimensional calibration (e.g. column verticality ≤ H/1000)

Complex nodes or large components are pre-assembled in the factory to verify fit accuracy and avoid rework on site.


8.Transport and factory preparation

Packaging Protection

Protect edges of components with corner protectors and seal bolt holes with tape to prevent wear and tear during transport.
